Set up your assessment Gem
Preview the steps for creating a Gem to develop assessment content aligned to Texas standards and assessment expectations. The shared prompt is coming soon and will be needed to complete setup.

Before you begin
Make sure you have access to the tools and resources you need.
Create your Gem.
In Gemini, open Gems. Under My Gems, select New Gem and give it a name.
Add the prompt and select Canvas.
Paste the shared prompt into Instructions. Under Default tool, select Canvas.
Knowledge
Add your reference materials.
Under Knowledge, add curriculum guides, lessons, and relevant STAAR scoring guides. Attach task-specific passages or lessons when you start an assessment.
Example request
Create a 12-item English I assessment on analyzing argumentative texts. Assess [TEKS taught in this unit]. Use any attached lessons and district curriculum guidance to match the taught content and expected rigor. Emphasize evaluating claims, analyzing supporting evidence, and making text-based inferences. Determine the passages, other stimuli, and item formats that best assess these TEKS and the intended student thinking, using applicable Texas assessment expectations. Generate the assessment as HTML for content-expert review and revision.
Save and start an assessment.
Click Save, then open your Gem and send a request with your attachments.
Example: English I. Replace the bracketed text with your TEKS, then adapt the course, unit, and instructional goals. Attach relevant district curriculum materials and any passage you want used.

Review and save the HTML.
Review alignment, answers, intended rigor, and visuals. Ask Gemini to revise as needed.
Save a local copy on Windows
HTML is a file format that opens as a webpage. Copy the complete generated HTML into Notepad. Save the file as assessment.html with Save as type set to All files. Open it in Chrome or Edge and check the questions, diagrams, and layout.
